Almost perfect

Love the app. Love its simple design and intuitive interface. Exactly what I’ve been looking for to create demos. Just one issue; having trouble getting adequate input levels. Can you suggest an audio interface to help with this or is there some function I’m missing?

Great recording app, stole my access

I bought this app when it first came out years ago. I paid for it. Not much, but that was the agreement. It’s easier to use than other apps. Recorded a bunch of songs on it. But then all of a sudden in mid project my access is taken away—not cool. I understand the need to increase revenue, but it should be done with in-app purchases or only get enhancements if you subscribe, but at very least a fair warning my access was dwindling would have been nice. Not cool! Now I’ve got unfinished songs I guess I’ll move over to Garage Band cause I ain’t subscribing at this point out of principle!

Hi

When I access saved files, it always returns me to the top of the list. Instead of the last saved file I looked at.

Bluetooth headphones fixed but latency makes it unusable

Was a good program but sadly outdated at this point.

User Guide

Hello, this sounds like a wonderful app but cannot find any instructions on how to use it. I will gladly change my rating if someone can point me towards some instructions.

Studio mini.

I wish it had more tracks and a way to ping pong or merge 2 tracks into 1. Other wise I really like it. Quick and does what it is supposed to do and does it well.

StudioMini

Even though most things on this app are quite obvious not everyone has the experience and knowledge to start using this technology without instructions. There must be a manual that is somewhere as you know even how many pages it is but all I can find is a coming soon. So where is the 33 page pdf document. I would gladly pay for this product if it is included. What’s up Rick

Never Reviewed An App

Edit: 2024 Update Well, all good things come to an end. A year ago I was very proud to have my review featured on Otreus’ home page. I linked to them on my website and thanked them even. But now, like the review by user Uncoolcentral, I was forced into an update when my old phone broke and I got a new one and I had to download the 3.0 version. Considering that .99c * 12 = 11.88$/ year and I had formerly used StudioMini from 2017-2023 through a one time purchase of 5$, making it .83c/ year, that is a 1431% price hike on a tool I was sold as a one time purchase. I do not care about Bluetooth, I don’t need to pay nearly 12$ a year for panning I can do in Reaper, I was never unhappy with the exporting options which while rudimentary were easy and fluid. I read here my music isn’t locked in, but playback was prohibited so I would never have discovered this as the most fundamental aspect was blocked I wouldn’t have assumed higher functions were blocked. The stereo function possesses an extreme degree of latency on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and I haven’t found it to be worth using myself. I paid the month fee this month to “get access” before finding this so I could offload my stuff but I doubt will keep this subscription. I am extremely disappointed. I wish that I could have the legacy application back and this new version was a separate application. Idk if that incurs a secondary dev fee if 99$/ year or not to host in the store and as a person working on a bachelors in software development I can understand wanting funding for projects; but as a user I feel alienated by this change and beyond disappointed. StudioMini was formerly my favorite musical product in existence and now it is just another musical product in a wilderness of plugin makers trying to nickel and dime musicians who most likely get paid in pennys. Congrats Reaper, you’ve won the crown. The 50$ Resper license is what StudioMini will cost a user in 4 years and .12 months but is infinitely more powerful and a MacBook Air is comparable in price to an iPhone and portable to all scenarios I ever took StudioMini into. Edit: 2019 update, still the best 4$ I have ever spent on music. — Seriously, this thing is more powerful than most studios in the 90’s. I am amazed at how light and powerful this DAW is. It turns my iPhone 7+ into a recording machine that is quick, efficient, and easy to migrate products from. 5 stars, two thumbs, etc. Et al. Edit: One year and a r er half later I apparently forgot that I ever wrote a review for this and came here to say that I have never reviewed an app before and— but apparently I have. I still love Studio Mini, I have made so many songs on this and it’s really simple to use for getting started with learning DAWs and continues being useful even after. I moved internationally and had to leave a lot of my gear behind but luckily I still had this until I can actually get some amps and mics.

Bueno

Love it

I love this app some of the stuff I do not know how to wear it. There is no tutorial on how to work things on it anyway I’m telling you I like it. I’ve been using it for years. I don’t expect or no if anyone is going to contact me back.

I like it except for one key feature missing

This is a fun and extremely basic but intuitive little multitrack recorder that allows you to record up to four separate tracks, just like the old cassette four-trackers from the 80s. There are very few bells and whistles save for some on-board drum loops which I think are new to the app and they are very helpful for setting down a groove for adding your guitar tracks, bass, etc. tracks. The one key feature missing I mentioned in the review title is such an obvious feature for guitarists that I can't believe it's not been included in this most recent update and that is the ability to loop the tracks like a looper pedal so you can practice a lead solo or other part. I hope the developer can add looping on the next update because that would make this a solid five- star app for simple, quick recording and practicing without the complicated learning curve on other recording DAWs. It would be great to be able to flip a switch for the transport to loop instead of having to hit the play button again when it stops.

Another lame subscription

Updated review after rugpull. Wish I could keep the app I paid for. Sigh. Forced to “upgrade” to having to pay all the time now. At least they were kind enough to give me a few days free so I can offload my files before the app ceases to be usable. Should’ve known if something is too good to be true…. It’s probably just a matter of time before they make the product you bought unusable unless you pay up again and again. Will pass. Thanks for the good times. Great app for throwing ideas together, love the simplicity of it. There are some features I do wish it had (like a way to scroll trough time to listen to specific parts* or cut /trim audio segments..) but I also feel like being limited is part of the point of the app. I find that this works very well at what it does. Not a full studio, nor do I think it was it intended to be one, but it’s a wonderful tool and worth having for brainstorming ideas or recording demos. I wish there was a deluxe version too, love being able to work so quickly when creating, but would be great to be able to have a little more editing ability or at least a scrolling ability so you could punch in at or listen to certain points and not have to start over each time *Edit: I can’t believe I’ve been using the app this long and didn’t catch that you can scroll through playback- I still think it’d be handy to be able to use that to start recording at a particular point in the song - another suggestion would be having the loop track also have recording function so you could use that as either a loop or a 5th track? Bottom line Overall I really love this app and have no complaints, I was hesitant but had I known how much I’d end up using and enjoying it.. totally worth it. Thanks for making a cool product.

Forced subscription for previous owners

Paid for the original version and now with the new update, I’m forced into a subscription.

Bait and Switch

I have a bunch of recordings I made in StudioMini years ago. Now I find out that because I’ve updated the app I’m only able to use the app a few more times without paying a monthly fee. When I originally purchased the app it was a perpetual license- by once, own forever. If I knew updating to the latest version would cripple the app I would not have updated. Devs: you’re undermining your support. When people would ask me about recording on a mobile device I would drop the StudioMini name. Now, I’m going to tell them to avoid it. Smooth moves. I understand developers need to make money, but this isn’t the way.

Used to be good

It all changed about a year ago. Now all I get is major feedback.

Useless

No help on issues

No longer mixes

My first purchased this app in 2017 and loved it. I've been trying to mix down some songs to upload to my computer and it no longer works. There is no way to get any help as their website isn't working at the time I wrote this. UPDATE: the company reached out to me to offer their assistance which is awesome.

I love this app!!

I downloaded this during covid when my flute ensemble couldn’t get together and would record three of the parts in our quartet pieces and then play along with that recording. It was the closest I could get to playing with my fellow flute players at the time. The app is so simple to use. I tried this with more complicated apps and got so lost in trying to figure out how to work them I gave up. But this little gem is perfect. I hope they keep it going. I’d be more than happy to pay for it.

Wonderful app

Great app to express music creativity so easy to work with

If only

If there was even a single tutorial on how to use this it would be sooooo awesome yummy

Vergemanlabs

I have recorded great songs using this app

Still my go to

I have been using this app since day 1 and continue to use this more often than any for quick ideas. I’m from the portastudio cassette days and this is the digital version. Keep it simple. Faster and easier than GarageBand. I’m also always surprised by quality I get just using the iPhone mic. And add drum loops, for 5 or 10$?! I paid 1k for a multitrack tape deck years ago!

Bluetooth headphones?

I’ve been using StudioMini for 10 years. It’s very easy to use. But something I just discovered: bums me out that the app won’t connect with my wireless Bluetooth headphones that I’ve paired with my iPhone; All my other audio apps do, Spotify, podcasts, etc. My iOS is up to date, what gives? Also, after 10 years, I’m still hoping for an update that would allow user to change tempos of the pre-recorded loops. Simplicity and ease of use makes it worthwhile, but it would be a GREAT app with a few tweaks.

It’s ok

Fun to use but every time I try to email a recording it says set up email and it won’t let my from my phone. I was under the impression that this can all be done be phone

Trash app.

Don’t see what gets people so excited about it. Limitations upon limitations....for the price of 5 dollars. There are free apps better than this for basic recording. I’m a professional media producer. I was made curious by all the positive reviews. Now, I’m feeling ripped off. Skip this and buy Multitrack DAW.

Absolutely terrible

Audio quality degraded with each subsequent track.

Bluetooth capable :)?

I love the app ive boughten it even for others. Do you think its worth making it play over blue tooth. Bands might buy it even more!

Avoid this one

The instructions is a page not found screen. It won’t access the mic, nor is there a button to access the mic. The user manual is the opposite of helpful. Based on the buttons, if it worked the you’d have a nice fourtrack. They won’t help you either.

can only record one track at a time

useless for my purpose. website is nonexistent and app seems to be abandoned

Studio Mini

Love it. Great app to record demos or just noodle around with sounds. File export could be better, and make sure you back up your jams. Recently upgraded a phone and lost everything! Still a very solid app though.

Awesome!!!

This thing is perfect!! Basic, great drum grooves, no bells or whistles to slow you down when capturing a fleeting idea! LOVE IT!!!!

Great app for collaboration

I bought this app to blend music from multiple sources during COVID-19 social distancing for our Sunday worship services. It works well, and the only frustration I have, as mentioned elsewhere, is the app does not play back through Bluetooth. While not critical, I would love to sit and listen to recordings through my Bluetooth speaker, and play with mixing levels to get the best blend, without having to use wired headphones. Still, it is a bargain for the price.

VERY RELIABLE APP

I’ve been using Studiomini for 6 years now! And what it lacks in completeness and effects it MORE than makes up for in EASE OF USE. It is the real-deal when it comes to “plug and play”. The sound and clarity is also VERY SUPERIOR. It doesn’t require a lot of preamp boost to get volume. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE STUDIOMINI FOR LAYING DOWN IMMEDIATE SONG IDEAS IN THE MOMENT. (I have tried to get started with Cubasis, Ableton, Auria Pro, et al and they all require LOTS of study and trial and error; not StudioMini ✌🏽)

Best thing out there

Been using this for years since back when all I had was an iPod touch 2. Have even exported tracks to desktop for use in full studio recordings. It really is the best thing out there. One tip is to always put dates and any details you can on recording names. I look back on things I recorded years ago and totally forgot about. So glad I found this app and that it remains usable on new iPhones. Oh and the drums are extremely high quality sound

Middling Program with major limitations

This software is quite an achievement compared to 4 track recorders from days of yore. Having said, once you get beyond its ability to allow you to lay down basic layered tracks on a phone - an iPhone 8 in my case – the apparent features frustrate rather than spawn creativity. The problem is, the year is not 1995 and even back then, 4-tracks allowed for flexibility in adding vocal effects and provided inputs for drum machines with a range of tempos. This does neither, at least without high-tech savvy, and missing both those, a musician will experience huge frustration with the results. I’ve recorded many a tune at an undesired pace, overly rushed or too draggy, and it’s a big disappointment to hear those songs now. And choices of reverb or echo would greatly enhance the experience also, but sadly, nada. Added to that, there is no ability here to “punch-in” so any performance errors require the entire track to be stopped and redone. Big loss on that. Finally, nothing can be played externally from within the program over Bluetooth, so forget about checking out an early mix in your car or Airplay. All in all, for high schoolers or young amateurs, this has some usefulness, but unless the developers are actually active on improving this, keep expectations very low. None of these things have been dealt with in the year or more I’ve had the program. Too bad.

iPhone 7

Can’t seem to get it to work on iPhone 7. First track looked like it started OK but then no response

Wish I was able to import without an cpu

Bought this not knowing I needed a computer to import audio. Why would I spend money on a studio app if I had a cpu.

Wow a new update!

Thank you so much for taking care on this wonderful app. StudioMini has been with me for a long time and is very useful for my writing songs and even my musical projects.

Great but please add panning!

Needs panning feature please...

Total crap

The recorded sound is garbled and very distorted. Do NOT buy this app, like I did. No way to get your money back.

Waste of $5

Crackling sounds on latest iOS update for iPhone XS. No ability to change tempo for stock beats. I mean why on earth do I need to be stuck to a fixed tempo for something. Was looking for a quick way to get musical ideas down and this is definitely not that. Was looking for something like Sonoma wireworks riffworks for iOS. This definitely isn’t it.

Suh-weeet!

Awesome! Easy to use and less cumbersome than Garage Band. Wish you could pan tracks- that’s the only thing

So much fun

I have used this for a year and don’t use my Tascam any more. I wish I could have 2 of them on my phone. I would like to be able to organize the songs in an order. Also I would like to be able to text songs to friends but you can not

Terrible

Not at all intuitive......look for something else

No panning!

Without the ability to pan during your mix down, you cannot produce a “stereo” signal! Had I known this, I wouldn’t have purchased this app....... Supposedly, this feature is in the works, however....the latter remains to be seen! This is why my rating is ⭐️⭐️

Great for ideas!

This is the app I was looking for, simple and very easy to use. I think it’s a great app to layer some ideas or even practicing solos with the guitar, voice harmonies etc... I love it.

The best there is.

I’ve tried a bunch of recording apps and this one is by far the best. It not only sounds the best but is very user-friendly. The mic sounds amazing!

Importing Music And Effects

I would suggest rather than having one import a music track into a channel. You should make it a feature to import a music track into the loops section. I would also consider having the ability to add effect to vocals!

Priceless

I’ve used this app to capture ideas that have ended up on albums and singles and more importantly most often prompted even better ideas. Someday I’d like to release the things I’ve recorded with it.
